Kinu Watanabe was born in Niigata, Japan in 1979. She attended the Osaka University of Arts and received a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Ceramics in 2003. With an interest in the U.S. contemporary art scene, she moved to San Diego where she completed a Post-Baccalaureate in ceramics at San Diego State University in 2005.
During the 2005-2006 school year, she was the ceramic lab technician, while continuing her ceramic practice in a studio provided by the university.
Kinu received Masters of Fine Arts in Ceramics from University of Washington in June 2008 and she is currently a resident artist and instructor at Pottery Northwest in Seattle.
